Key Requirements 

As Senior Development Manager: P2X, you will be responsible primarily for identifying opportunities and managing opportunities/projects through all project phases up to Financial Close (FC), when the projects are handed over to the Construction Project Manager. Your key responsibilities comprise of the following: 

  • Investigate and review P2X opportunities in South Africa  
  • Develop market intelligence as it relates to P2X opportunities/projects, understand, manage and monitor changes in legislation and regulations affecting the industry, and engage actively with industry associations in this regard. 
  • Position Mainstream as a recognised leading P2X player with stakeholders in the region. 
  • Managing opportunities/projects through all project development phases, from initial feasibility to FC.   
  • Closing out any development related activities to the point where the project can pass FC. 
  • Design and manage the project schedule, budget, and other project controls for assigned project processes.  
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key project and market stakeholders, both internally and externally.    
  • Identify and communicate, on a timely basis, all project barriers and risks, together with the strategies and mitigants to overcome those barriers and risks. 
  • Providing input to Mainstream’s P2X strategy in region. 
  • Writing, reviewing and presenting papers for Mainstream’s Risk and Investment Committee and/or Board approval, as appropriate.  
  • Represent Mainstream confidently and knowledgeably in public. 
  • Prepare and motivate new business cases / strategies, and execute on new business strategies, including those related to P2X. 

For the above you will need to: 

  • Liaise and cooperate with other functional and regional teams 
  • Engaging and managing technical and engineering consultants 
  • Define and coordinate the P2X development process   
  • Significant autonomy in work, but a strong reporting and approval process using Mainstream’s procedures and processes (based on PMI® PMBOK®) 
  • Interaction with the relevant in-house teams – Solar & Wind analysis, GIS, engineering, Grid connection, environmental, permits and construction 
  • Participate in company knowledge sharing groups which focus on sharing of expertise globally.

Key Requirements for success in the role 

  • A high standard of commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental Quality.  
  • A minimum of 7 years in project development, managing the full scope of the project lifecycle including green fielding, permitting, consenting, bidding, negotiating and reaching financial close. Experience in P2X project development will be preferred.  
  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree.  
  • Managing project development and construction experience in power generation industry. Experience in P2X and renewables is an advantage. 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. 
  • Ability to analyse and present qualitative & quantitative information for decision making. 
  • Strong communication, negotiation, relationship / people management and presentation skills.  
  • Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team. Can demonstrate a high level of self-motivation.  
  • Willingness to work as part of multi-functional teams, across different time zones. 
  • Adaptable, tenacious, self-starter and self-reliant. 
  • High personal standards regarding professional code of conduct and compliance. 
  • Willingness to travel regionally and internationally as required, but may be extensive. 
  • Candidates should be capable of managing internal and external resources. 
  • Ability to use Microsoft software as well as specialist software packages such as AutoCAD, MS Project and SharePoint. 
  • Fluency in English & other South Africa language  
  • Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) is an advantage.
